Frequently asked Questions for RBCA Tool Kit
Description:
The RBCA Tool Kit for Atlantic Canada is a region-specific
customization of GSI's popular RBCA
Tool Kit for Chemical Releases software. It is designed
to complete the calculations required for Tiers I and II of the
Atlantic RBCA Protocol, which was recently updated, including
harmonization with the Canada-Wide Standard for Petroleum Hydrocarbons
(CWS-PHC). The RBCA Tool Kit for Atlantic Canada utilizes
default parameters, modeling options, and chemical data consistent
with the Atlantic RBCA User Guidance.

This software
is a comprehensive modeling and risk characterization package for
Tier I and Tier II RBCA evaluations for petroleum release sites.
The RBCA Tool Kit combines contaminant transport models and risk
assessment tools to calculate baseline risk levels and derive Site
Specific Target Levels (SSTLs) for a full array of soil, groundwater,
and air exposure pathways. The ease-of-use and streamlined
graphical interface make it an essential tool for handling RBCA
calculations for both simple and sophisticated problems.
Features:
So What's New?
Fate
and Transport Models: Fate and transport models from Atlantic
RBCA User Guidance, v. 2.1, for all exposure pathways. Multiple
points of exposure (POEs) allow analysis of actual vs. potential
points of exposure in the same run. An array of default
transport parameters is provided for various soil types, including
default coarse-grained and fine-grained soil types.
Transient Modeling
Options: In addition to steady-state air, soil, and groundwater
exposure models, the RBCA Tool Kit for Atlantic Canada allows transient
groundwater modeling analysis to help estimate not only how high
but how soon exposure could occur.
Chem/Tox
Database: Extensive chemical
list covers a wide array of chemicals, including organic solvents,
petroleum hydrocarbons (including TPH fractions), pesticides, metals,
and more. The user selects the chemical of concern and the key data
loads automatically. Database can be expanded and customized by
the user for state-specific values. Note: Regulatory authorities
in Atlantic Canada currently approve the use of RBCA for petroleum
constituents only.
Graphical
User Interface: Streamlined graphical interface
guides the user through the RBCA evaluation process. Features include
convenient unit selections and conversions, the option to save and
retrieve data for efficient file storage, and import and export
compatibility with GSI's generic RBCA Tool Kit for Chemical Releases.
Reports:
Produces report-quality output tables of baseline
risk and calculated SSTLs and a report-ready summary for each chemical.
