Developed
in conjunction with Florida DEP and Florida Partners in RBCA Implementation
(PIRI)
User-friendly
interface and comprehensive guidance manual
GSI has
developed the RNA Tool Kit for the Florida Petroleum Cleanup Program
in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP) and the Florida Partners in RBCA Implementation (PIRI). The
model incorporates the Soil Attenuation Model
(SAM) for derivation of soil-to-groundwater protection
levels, and the Groundwater Natural Attenuation Model (GNAM) model
(derived from BIOSCREEN) for
analysis of groundwater plume attenuation rates. A new Source Mass
Calculator has been added to assist in estimation of the model source
term. Based on site-specific inputs, the model predicts long-term
natural attenuation rates and derives source area target concentrations.
These results can be used to assess the need for an active remedy
or to establish the feasibility of Remediation by Natural Attenuation
(RNA).
Although
the software was developed for the Florida Petroleum Cleanup Program,
the models used in the Florida RNA Tool Kit are generally accepted
in the scientific community and can therefore can be used in any
jurisdiction that allows Remediation by Natural Attenuation.
Features: So
What's New?
Groundwater
Natural Attenuation Model (GNAM): Validated analytical
groundwater transport model based on BIOSCREEN; allows
comparison of several generally-accepted biodegradation algorithms.
Source
Mass Calculator (SMaC): Algorithm determines the amount
of contaminant mass in the source area.
Soil
Attenuation Model (SAM): Calculates the amount of constituent
that is being leached from the soil source into the groundwater.
Chemical/Toxicological
Database: Contains
all necessary chemical and toxicological parameters for numerous
common constituents of concern; new compounds can be added and existing
compounds edited as site conditions dictate.
User-Friendliness
Enhancements: Includes
comprehensive guidance manual and
on-line, context-sensitive help system.
The Florida
RNA Tool Kit is designed to address the following questions regarding
groundwater exposure pathways at petroleum release sites:
Soil
Cleanup: Is further soil removal or treatment
required to protect groundwater?
RNA
Time Frame: How much time
is required for natural attenuation to achieve groundwater cleanup
goals at this site?
Groundwater
Cleanup: Is an active groundwater remedy needed? If so,
how clean must the plume be before RNA will finish the job?
