Monitoring and Remediation Optimization System (MAROS) Version 2.2

The Monitoring and Remediation Optimization System (MAROS) software has been developed by GSI and UH for the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) in accordance with the AFCEE Long-Term Monitoring Optimization guide. The software provides site managers with a strategy for formulating appropriate long-term groundwater monitoring programs that can be implemented at lower costs. MAROS is a decision support tool based on statistical methods applied to site-specific data that accounts for relevant current and historical site data as well as hydrogeologic factors (e.g. seepage velocity) and the location of potential receptors (e.g., wells, discharge points, or property boundaries). Based on this site-specific information the software suggests an optimization plan for the current monitoring system in order to efficiently achieve the termination of the monitoring program. This public domain software was developed for the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence through a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) contract with GSI Environmental Inc. Inc. of Houston, TX and the University of Houston. MAROS is programmed in Microsoft Access.

MAROS 2.2 is compatible with Access 2000/XP. MAROS 2.2 adds functionality, including improved power analysis and moment analysis. It also has updated reports, graphing, and importing.

System Requirements:

IBM-compatible PC with Pentium or later processor. Recommended minimum 64 MB RAM (optimal 128 MB RAM). Requires Microsoft Office XP (Access XP), Microsoft Excel, and Windows 98 or later, or Windows NT.

NOTE: MAROS 2.2 is compatible with Office 2007 / 2010 however, you can download a BETA version of MAROS here.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Download the appropriate version of the MAROS software for your version of Microsoft Office (Office 2000, Office XP/2003, or Office 2007) above.
  2. The download is a zip file containing several files. The software is the MAROS_v2_2_03.mdb file (MAROS_v2_2.mdb or MAROS_v2_2_07.mdb for Office 2000 and 2007 respectively). Also included are the MAROS Manual, example data, a tutorial archive file (MAROS_Train_Archive_08), constituent lists and import templates.
  3. It is recommended that you make a copy of the zip file and save it in a different location in case you need a replacement or extra copy of the software in the future.
  4. To run the software, open the appropriate mdb file (MAROS_v2_2_03.mdb, MAROS_v2_2.mdb or MAROS_v2_2_07.mdb). the mdb file must be in the same folder with xlsDelaunay2k.xls, xlsLOETrendResults.xls and xlsNewLocation.xls in order to run the spatial redundancy modules.
