Principal Environmental Engineer


Ann P. Smith Ms. Smith is a Principal Environmental Engineer  with GSI Environmental Inc. (GSI), with over 30 years of experience on contracts and projects focusing on soil, air, groundwater, and surface water contamination for Government, oil and gas, and chemical industry clients under RCRA, CERCLA, and a variety of state regulatory programs in Texas and throughout the U.S. She has extensive experience on environmental engineering and science projects including site investigation/remediation, permitting and compliance, remedial optimization and emissions monitoring. Ms. Smith manages highly technical teams of engineers, geologists, scientists, and hydrogeologists to perform R&D projects, develop exit strategies and conceptual site models, assess remedial system operations, perform performance monitoring and propose recommendations for environmental program improvements.

Ms. Smith also works on projects to support water management related to oil and gas operations, including recycling and injection well operations, environmental permits and regulations, development of water balance tools to quantify and manage flowback, recycling, and disposal activities, evaluation of stray gas incidents and sustainability assessments. She works closely with the oil and gas industry, regulatory agencies, academia, and Governmental and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to address environmental impacts, such as baseline groundwater sampling and stray gas investigations, measurement/quantification of air emissions, and evaluation of tools and techniques for on‐site analysis of chemical and microbial constituents of produced water at shale oil and gas development sites. Additional responsibilities at GSI include client coordination, project strategy development, technical evaluation, risk assessments, QAQC, and operations responsibilities such as managing resources and reporting progress, cost, and schedule.
